Summary: A year after their first May Day celebration.
Disclaimer: Zach could be considered mine, but Adia belongs to Miss Faye.

Author's Note: The first celebration was where Adia kissed Zach when he wandered through without a mask. This was the one year anniversary of that. Written because Faye asked nicely for something Zach-related. *laughs*

He waited for exactly the right moment before moving toward her. He'd been watching her all night, planning his moment. He found it when she stepped toward the outside of the crowd, taking a moment to catch her breath and let her eyes roam over the sea of people.
He moved forward without hesitation, grabbing her wrist and tugging her lightly toward a screening wall of pine trees. He'd been watching that too, making sure no one else stole it before they got there.
She protested at first, unsure of who was pulling her away. She tried tugging her hand back, but he kept his fingers locked, firm but gentle, around her wrist. Finally, she laughed softly and whispered his name.
At the sound of it, she spun her around carefully and stepped in close, trapping her between a sharply scented tree and his body. He tipped his mask up, letting it rest on top of his head, and smiled down at her.
"I caught you. Do I get to keep you now?" His voice was low but carried over the soft rumble of the people at the nearby gathering. She laughed softly in return and pulled her own mask off as well.
"How did you know? I tied my hair back and everything."
"Hmm..." He pulled softly at one of the many ribbons in her hair, loosening the knot until it slithered slippery-quick into his waiting fingers. He grinned at her slow blink and traced the end of the silk along her nose. "It'll take more than ribbons and masks to fool me." An eyebrow was raised in response, in question. He explained.
"Your ribbons and costumes and masks can't hide you, and here's why: I know your eyes. I've caught them looking at me too many times to forget them." He ducked his head down to her, stooping to reach her. "I know the way you smell. The combination of your soap and your lotion and your hair." A soft kiss was placed against the skin below her ear and he continued in a whisper. "I know the curve of your neck..." He placed the flat of his palm low against the inside arch of her hipbone. "And this curve..." His other hand wandered up over her waist and his thumb traced along the bottom of her ribcage. "And this one too." He felt her shiver through the fabric of her costume.
"You can't hide from me, Adia. Even if you want to pretend that you can. You've shared thoughts and ideas with me, and I can even guess at the ones you haven't. And I've looked at you for over a year now. You can't fool my eyes." He pulled back just enough to study her face. "And you definitely can't fool my heart."
The hand still low on her hip slid around just enough to pull her closer.
"I know you. And I think I've fallen in love with you." She blinked her eyes open at the words. "But all I want right now is for you to kiss me like you did last year."
He shivered in her arms as she leaned against him and more than willingly fulfilled the request.
