Zach smiled as he heard steps crunching in the grass, slowly making their way closer to where he was laying under a tree with his eyes closed. They'd managed to find a state park and their rather motley assortment of people and vehicles were currently occupying one of its picnic areas.
The steps halted nearby. He figured it to be no more than 5 feet away.
"We're leaving soon," she said.
"I know."
"Oh really?"
He laughed softly and cracked one eye open, squinting against the bright sun that poured down through the still leafless brances of the tree he was under. He gestured vaguely with one hand back towards where Adia had walked from.
"Not exactly quiet."
She turned and looked back at where an impromptu game of 'keep the keys away from the drivers' had broken out. She laughed and shook her head.
"I guess not."
"And do you know what else?" he asked, hoisting himself up on one elbow and leaning a bit closer to where she stood.
"What?"
He grinned and wrapped his arms around her legs, carefully tumbling her down on top of himself. He settled her quickly against his chest, arms firmly around her, and whispered into her hair.
"As long as they're doing that, it means we can steal a few minutes for ourselves."
Adia smiled and shifted only slightly to get rid of the stone under her hip.
"Well then I hope it takes Nath a while to get the keys back."
"Me too."
Zach closed his eyes again and brought his hand up to slowly separate sections of her hair and let them slip back through his fingers. It was a few minutes before he spoke again, and when he did, it was just loud enough to carry the short distance to her ear.
"Besides, we're not the only ones that are stealing time. I heard at least four other people walk off into the woods. It's getting to the point where I think everyone is taking whatever privacy they can get." He paused. "There's only so much of other people you can take before you just need some quiet."
Adia turned her head just enough to place a soft kiss on his cheek.
"Quiet is good."
He smiled again and returned the kiss on the top of her head.
"Quiet
is good."
